The Importance Of Gender Economics Was Discussed In Armenia For Developing Women՛s Entrepreneurship

The conference was concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperationbetween the Union of Manufacturers  and Businessmen of Armenia (UMBA) and theUnion of Women Employers of Yerevan and Neighboring Regions (UWEARM).


For developing women’s entrepreneurship in Armenia, the conference was held on January26 in Ani Grand Hotel, Yerevan. Among the participants were Government bodies,representatives of international organizations, businesswomen.


The participants of the conference were welcomed by Armen Martirosyan, the Vice-President of UMBA, who wished the invitees an effective day, Luiza Ayvazyan, the Head of Office of Center of International Private Enterprise (CIPE) Armenian branch, Elen Manaseryan, the President of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia.


The Union of Women Employers of Yerevan and Neighboring Regionspresented the 10-year activities and upcoming plans. According to Susanna Khalatyan, the President of the Union, one of the priority tasks of the Union and conference is to formform a platform where it will be possible to raise anddiscuss the issues affecting businesswomen, develop and implement supportand capacity building programs, and to exchange necessary information.Liana Amirkhanyan, the President of the standing committee on issues of equality in permanent employment relations and Anna Barikyan, the awyer of the Department of Labor and Social Rights Protection of the Labor and Social Rights Committee of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia delivered speeches on “Empowerment of women through trade unions”.


“Global Trends and The Situation In Armenia” report was presented byMarina Poghosyan, an expert of the CCM program.Zaven Melikjanyan, CIVITTA International gender policy expert, addressed the challenges and opportunities of gender equality in the economic system of Armenia. An active discussion took place around the presented topics.


At the end, a Memorandum of Cooperation was also signed between the Union ofWomen Employers of Yerevan and Neighboring Regions and the Confederation of TradeUnions of Armenia’s standing committee on issues of equality in permanent working relations.


The conference was held within the framework of CIPE’s “StrongAssociations, Chambers and Unions - Strong Advocates” program.
